Around the world, and here the UK, wealth is increasingly concentrated in the hands of the super-rich. A caring and compassionate society should enable everyone to flourish and ask those who can afford it to contribute more.
Andy Burnham has previously indicated his support for the idea of a wealth tax. So we are calling on his government to tax wealth more equally to income. That includes a 2% tax on personal wealth of more than £10 million and reforming existing taxes on wealth – to tackle inequality, pay for public services and help address the climate crisis.
The Chancellor is set to deliver his first Budget on 28th October - now is the time for those most able to contribute to pay a fair share back to the society that supports us all.
