Taxes on wealth could help tackle inequality and the climate crisis.

We believe, alongside many people of faith and people of good will, that we have a responsibility to speak out for a fairer economy.

Around the world, and here the UK, wealth is increasingly concentrated in the hands of the super-rich. A caring and compassionate society should enable everyone to flourish and ask those who can afford it to contribute more.

Andy Burnham has previously indicated his support for the idea of a wealth tax. So we are calling on his government to tax wealth more equally to income. That includes a 2% tax on personal wealth of more than £10 million and reforming existing taxes on wealth – to tackle inequality, pay for public services and help address the climate crisis.
